Your Council

Newton Abbot Town Council works on behalf of the local community to deliver services, maintain public spaces, support events, and represent the town’s interests. This page introduces the Council’s work and the people who help make it happen.

What we do

Newton Abbot Town Council is responsible for a wide range of local services and community projects. This includes:

  • Maintaining some public footpaths, various seats and street furniture in and around the town
  • Caring for Victoria Gardens, Golden Lion Square, the Town Quay and St Leonard’s Clock Tower
  • Managing planting at the War Memorial in Queen Street and delivering Newton in Bloom
  • Providing and maintaining some bus shelters
  • Offering allotment space via the Newton Abbot & District Allotments Association
  • Supporting town events throughout the year
  • Acting as a consultee on planning applications and street naming
  • Funding shop improvement grants
  • Looking after the historic Vicary’s Mill Leat in Bradley
  • Supporting the Newton Abbot Town & GWR Museum
