Annual Town Meeting

Annual Town Meeting

What is an Annual Town Meeting?

This is a meeting of the Parish and should not be confused with a Town Council meeting.

What is the purpose of the Annual Town Meeting?

The purpose of the meeting is to give electors an opportunity to have a say on anything that concerns the Town of Newton Abbot. We do this through conducting a survey and compiling the results to form the priorities of the Council.

What else happens at the meeting?

The meeting can also be an opportunity for local groups, clubs, societies and other voluntary and statutory organisations to engage with residents about the work they do and what they are involved in.

Who can attend the meeting?

The Annual Town Meeting is for all electors of the Parish.  It is not a meeting of the Town Council.  Anyone is welcome to attend the meeting.  However, only registered electors of the parish may speak and vote.

Will I be able to ask questions and make suggestions?

Yes!  Any registered elector may ask a question which will usually be answered by the Mayor or the Clerk.  An elector may also make a suggestion and comment on anything appropriate to the residents of the Parish.  This will be welcomed and is the whole purpose of the meeting.

Will Town Councillors be at the meeting?

All Town Councillors will be invited to attend.  However, the purpose of the meeting is to enable the electors to find out what is going on in their parish and to have their say.
