Newton Abbot: The town that delivers

Foreword

The Newton Abbot Neighbourhood Development Plan represents a significant step for the Town Council – not only in bringing together the public’s views and aspirations for the town, but also in creating a framework for future development.

Throughout the process, we have been clear that a Neighbourhood Development Plan is not an opportunity to rewrite the town’s planning vision. That vision is set out in Plan Teignbridge, and this Plan sits firmly within that broader framework.

The Town Council has worked closely with a Steering Group of local people during the preparation of the Neighbourhood Development Plan. We are grateful to those who gave their time and energy to help shape this work.

As a Town Council, we understand the need for Newton Abbot to move with the times. We must ensure the town has the right services and facilities for its growing population, while also reflecting on and preserving its heritage.

This Plan celebrates Newton Abbot’s historic character and heritage assets, and it sets out an approach for future development that is sensitive to those strengths.

Looking ahead, the Town Council hopes Newton Abbot will continue to be seen as an ambitious and forward-thinking town – one with a clear view of the future.

We commend this Neighbourhood Development Plan to you as the start of that journey.
