St Leonard's Tower

The medieval tower of St Leonard’s, Newton Abbot 1220–2004

St Leonard’s Tower – known locally as “The Clock Tower” – is Newton Abbot’s most recognisable landmark. Standing at the heart of the town, it forms a dignified and historic centrepiece and serves as a powerful symbol of the town’s long and proud heritage.

This much-loved gothic structure, together with the Wednesday market, stands as one of the town’s two surviving institutions. The tower, originally part of a larger chapel building, marks the early beginnings of Newton Abbot in the 13th century.

Today, St Leonard’s Tower is open to the public from May to September on Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and on selected Saturdays. For more details, please contact 01626 201121.
