What we’re building
- Youth Café and Training Hub A welcoming space offering work experience and life skills for young people.
- Community Exhibition Space 378 sqm for art, pop-ups, and events, free to community groups.
- CCTV Control Centre A secure, modern facility enhancing town centre safety.
- Flexible Workstations Affordable desk and office rentals for freelancers and small businesses.
- Storage and Support Areas Ensuring smooth operations across all functions.
Why it matters
- Meets identified need: Endorsed by both the Neighbourhood Development Plan (2016–2033) and the Community Plan (2022–2032).
- Fills a market gap: No existing venue combines hospitality, civic tech, and cultural programming in one accessible location.
- Supports local priorities: Youth engagement, creative expression, business incubation, and public safety.
Funding requirements
We seek financial support to:
- Fit out and equip the premises
- Launch core services (café, CCTV, workstations)
- Promote community engagement and participation
Initial capital investment will be provided by the Town Council. We invite partners to co-invest in the future of Newton Abbot through grants, sponsorships, or service contracts

Newton’s Place Phase II is ready to become a cornerstone of community life. With your support, we can turn vision into reality—creating a space that belongs to everyone and benefits all.
Let’s build it together
The financial implications of acquiring these premises would involve raising the Council Tax for a Band D home by £5 p.a. to fund a loan from the Public Works Loan Board. This equates to 42p per month or 9p per week. The cost of fitting out the premises would be met from the Council’s own capital budget and grants.
