Spaces up for grabs at Newton Abbot Lantern Making workshop

RESIDENTS in and around Newton Abbot are being given the chance to make their mark at the December 9 Lantern Festival by creating their own unique entries.

This year’s theme for the incredibly popular event will be dinosaurs and two lantern-making workshops are set to take place at The Avenue Church on Tuesday December 8.

The first will be between 4pm - 6pm and the second 6pm - 8pm with each session allowing participants to create their own illuminated ‘terrible lizards’.

Both are open to adults and children alike and will be led by helpful artists but must be booked in advance.

A £5 charge per person to cover costs will be payable in advance.

Natalie Hicks, Events Coordinator at Newton Abbot Town Council, said: ‘The Lantern Parade is one of the biggest dates in our festive calendar and it always packs the streets with huge crowds.

‘Having the opportunity to be part of the parade rather than just watching is very special and we know more people will apply than we can accommodate so please get in touch as soon as possible.

‘I have no doubt that, once again, Newton Abbot will be flooded with light and creativity and we can’t wait to see everyone’s lanterns.

‘The word dinosaur means ‘terrible lizard’ in ancient Greek but we’re actually expecting plenty of amazing 21st century monsters to roam the streets on Wednesday December 9.

‘Call us now on 01626 201120 or pop into Newton’s Place in Wolborough Stret and secure your workshop place before they’re all snapped up.’
