Newton Abbot & District Musical Comedy Society - "Dear Evan Hanson"

On Thursday evening, the Mayor, Councillor Louise Cooke, attended a powerful and thought-provoking performance of “Dear Evan Hansen” at the Alexandra Theatre, presented by Newton Abbot and District Musical Society.

The production tackles some incredibly challenging themes, including suicide, grief, loneliness and severe anxiety, while exploring the struggles faced by young people and the importance of connection and conversation.

The young cast delivered performances that were both moving and compelling, handling the difficult subject matter with great sensitivity and maturity.

During the interval, the Society’s President, Richard Ward, spoke about suicide among young men and highlighted the work of Andy’s Man Club and its simple but important message: “It’s okay to talk.” A collection was held at the end of the performance in support of the charity.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this ambitious production to the stage – from the talented performers in the spotlight to the many people working tirelessly behind the scenes.

A memorable evening of theatre with an important message at its heart.
