Newton Abbot Town Council is pleased to be trialling wildlife-friendly management on eight selected grass verges across the town throughout 2026 and beyond.
A range of approaches, including the sowing of native wildflower seed, will be tested at different locations to help identify the most effective methods for future, more widespread use.
A common concern is that these verges will be left to grow completely wild, potentially affecting visibility at junctions.
This will not be the case.
All verges will continue to receive routine cuts and essential maintenance throughout the year, with clearly signposted sections managed specifically for wildlife.
We look forward to sharing a final approach for this initial trial once the results of our community consultation have been fully reviewed.
