The Council appoints a number of committees to undertake the business of the authority. These committees have their own budgets allocated and delegated authority to make decisions on the Council’s behalf, as long as those decisions are within budget and Council policy. If not the committee will make a recommendation to the Council. All meetings commence at 7.00 p.m., usually on a Wednesday. The exception is the Planning Committee which meets on a Tuesday at 2.00 p.m. on a three-weekly cycle.
Committees can appoint sub-committees to deal with individual functions, for example, the Community & Heritage Committee has an Events Sub-Committee with its own budget and delegation. All meetings of the Council’s committees and sub-committees are open to the public unless excluded for individual items which will be of a sensitive or confidential nature. At the commencement of each meeting, the public has the opportunity to raise issues or ask questions of councillors – please CLICK HERE to see the Public Participation Policy.
