Sorry… No trick, or treat, meet or greet this Halloween
Due to the ‘rule of six’ which applies indoors and outdoors, gatherings that exceed this limit, such as traditional Halloween parties and social events, cannot take place this year.
Police and partner agencies are encouraging trick-or-treaters to stay at home in order to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19.
Some people, particularly if elderly or vulnerable, might be distressed by strangers knocking at their door during the evening – even more so during a global pandemic.

Remembrance Sunday Service – Sunday 8th November
NEWTON Abbot residents have been asked not to gather at the War Memorial on Remembrance Sunday but to lay wreaths early then leave and watch the ceremony live on Facebook. The call has come from the Town Council in a bid to maintain social distancing as the Covid-19 pandemic continues. This year’s service will take place on Sunday November 8 but will only include a limited number of representatives from the clergy, Royal British Legion and Town Council.
The ceremony will be brief and no road closures are planned as would normally be the case. Events Organiser Natalie Hicks said the decision had been taken with a heavy heart but that public safety was the authority’s number one concern. ‘We are inviting wreath-layers to come between 9am – 10.30am on the day and then go home to watch the service live on the Town Council’s Facebook page,’ she said. ‘We are also asking wreath-layers to give their names on arrival at the War Memorial so we can compile a list which will be read out at the service. ‘If you’re unable to lay at the specified time then please feel free to come independently but not between 10.30am – 12 noon on the day.‘ ‘And if individuals would like to purchase a wreath for the day please contact Richard Underhill at the Royal British Legion on 01626 353494. Please note that organisation wreaths are ordered automatically each year. ‘We thank you for your support and appreciate that this year will be a hard one for everyone but hope you can understand the measures we have put in place to make it as safe as possible.’
