Newton Abbot town centre was bursting with excitement on Wednesday 13th December thanks to the lantern parade in the town. Approx. 200 pupils from Bearnes, Wolborough, All Saints, Decoy, Bradley Barton, Haytor View, Highweek & St Joseph’s Primary Schools took pride in parading their colourful Christmas lanterns through the streets of Newton Abbot towards the Clock Tower. The theme this year was ‘Into the Deep’ and the lanterns varied from fish and dolphins to seahorses and whales, it truly was a ‘sea’ of colour. A big thank you to local artist Tony Gee and other members of the Creation Myth Puppets who were able to make this fantastic event possible once again, working in partnership with Newton Abbot Town Council.

This year’s Newton Abbot Town Carnival has now ended and due to the great support received it enabled to the carnival having a very successful and entertaining week.
Running on a tight Budget the carnival managed to stage a good assortment of events to suit all ages and interests ranging from the Spectacle of the Crowning of the Carnival Queen (CLICK HERE for pictures of the day) and the Carnival Procession to the energy of the Fun Run, the Children’s Fun Games evening and the Tractor Pull. Also from the Performances of the Carnival afternoon entertainers, Band Concert from Carnival Praise to the elegance of the Tea Dancers. Finally the Intelligent quizzers to the sheer game of chance that is Bingo. Quite a list I think you will agree.

The theme this year was ‘A Child is Born’ and the lanterns varied from goats and camels, kings and angels, soldiers and stars, chickens and sheep and much more. Newton Abbot Town Council organised a day of music and entertainment for all the family, to celebrate the switching on of the towns Christmas lights. During the day Coombeshead College students performed live music to the members of public and free face painting and balloon modelling was on offer to the public. Breeze radio station were also in town with their ‘Safe Cracker’ event, offering the members of the public a chance to win a car.
...A successful day all round for the 2016 Autumn Fayre despite the inclement weather throughout the day. The day started with a parade of the homemade pasties, kindly baked and donated by ‘Homebake’ who are located in the Indoor Market, which included the Mayor of Newton Abbot Liz Roberts and Deputy Mayor Ann Jones, Local MP Anne Marie Morris, local Town crier and escort and Members of the Court Leet. The cart itself was pushed by the onion sellers and the onion man. The parade started off at Newton Abbot Town Hall at 10.30 am and went through Queen Street, Courtenay Street, Bank Street, Market Square and Walk and in Courtenay Street.
