Green Flag Success

GREEN FLAG SUCCESS for The Den, Courtenay Park and Decoy Country Park

Green Flag

During May 2011 the parks were judged with 2 members of the Green Spaces team (Jane Sharp and Mark Payne) meeting the judges and discussing with them the parks and answering any questions that they had.  Members of others departments as well as members of the public were asked to meet the judges to demonstrate how they work together for the park, whether its providing the day to day maintenance or running an event in the area.

The Green Flag is seen as the national benchmark for quality parks, and to win an award a place must perform well against eight set criteria:

• A welcoming place
• Healthy, safe and secure
• Clean and well maintained
• Sustainability
• Conservation and heritage
• Community involvement
• Marketing
• Management

The scheme is run by environmental charities Keep Britain Tidy, BTCV and GreenSpace and it has been announced this week that the above 3 areas have met the required standard this year.
