Newton Abbot Community Interest Company was launched in December 2008. The Newton Abbot CIC was established with the aim of turning the Newton Abbot and District Community Plan into action. The Newton Abbot CIC works with a wide range of organisations around the town, including Teignbridge District Council, Newton Abbot Town Council, Teignbridge Community & Voluntary Services, Transition Newton Abbot and the Town Centre Partnership.
Some of our current projects include:
Golden Lion Square – we are working with Newton Abbot Town Council and the Newton Abbot Community Trust to develop plans for the Square based on the outcomes of the public consultation. We are also seeking grant funding to enable the work to go ahead.
Community Hub – we are working with a range of community and voluntary sector organisations in the town, with the aim of developing a ‘one stop shop’. The aim would be to move a number of organisations into one building where they could cut costs by sharing some facilities. Users would also benefit from being able to access a number of services in one place
The Newton Abbot and District Community Plan is a document that sets out the Community’s needs, hopes and aspirations for the future, plus an action plan to make them a reality. The plan was developed by a number of volunteers, local residents and representatives of organisations after 4 years of consultation.
The Plan sets out 6 objectives that members of the community have said would contribute towards making Newton Abbot a better place to live and work in. These objectives focus on the Town Centre, young people, developing business and job opportunities, taking care of our community and environment and promoting and enjoying all that Newton abbot has to offer.
A copy of the full Plan can be downloaded here.
In 2010 an updated Executive Summary of the Plan was produced. This can be downloaded by clicking here.
